4.     MOTIVATIONAL QUESTIONS / WARM-UP:

        To motivate the students towards the topic, the teacher conducts a debate on the topic: Is woman Superior or Man Superior.

 

5.     INTRODUCTION OF THE TOPIC:

 

      After the debate, The Teacher introduces the topic “The Story of Mulan”, the story of a Chinese Legendary woman, who fought for her country and won the war. The story’s main theme is “Patriotism has no gender”.

 

6.     CONTENT DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES:

The teacher selects a passage from the story and gives a model reading. Gives them it’s explanation and encourage them to read and enjoy the story with their friends.  The students listen to the teacher’s explanation and instructions attentively. The teacher shows the video on the lesson and explains the story.

robe : a long, loose outer garment reaching the ankles

kung fu : a chinese method of fighting that involves using your hands and feet and not using weapons

might : great and impressive power or strength, especially of a nation, large organization, or natural force

Ø The Story of Mulan is a Chinese folklore, a true story of a teenage girl turned warrior in China.

Ø Long ago, China had to face war, for which additional soldiers were required.

Ø The Chinese emperor demanded one man from each family join the army.

Ø Women were prohibited from working in armies in those days in China. Still, Mulan wanted to join the army on behalf of her aged, ill father.

Ø She chopped her hair, changed her clothes to those of a man, and convinced her father to let her join the army.

Ø Mulan won all the battles and was put in charge of other soldiers.

Ø When things were going well in Mulan's life, a dangerous fever swept through the soldiers of Mulan's regiment, and it caused Mulan herself to fall ill.

Ø Unfortunately, Mulan's identity was revealed to the soldiers by the doctor who treated her during her fever.

Ø Despite her illness, Mulan led her team to escape from the enemy. Finally, China successfully won the war.

Ø Mulan bought honour to her family and went home with the lavish gifts that the emperor had given her

Develop the hints given below in about 150 words:

 Hua Mulan - Chinese warrior - Northern and Southern dynasties - Chinese history- described in the Ballad of Mulan. Hua Mulan - disguised as a man - takes her - father's place in the army -Mulan fought - twelve years - gained high merit - she refused - reward - retired - her hometown.

The Teacher reads the poem aloud and makes the students listen and repeat the same with correct stress & intonation, with proper pronunciation. After explaining the meaning, she also teaches the poet devices.
